  14. This sure looks like part of the ongoing problem of making
  15. all the TeXware 64-bit clean.  We went through that
  16. some years ago when half the available machines thought
  17. an int was 16 bits long, and people got into
  18. the habit of writing "long" when what they meant was
  19. 32-bit integer.  Now all those longs are coming back
  20. to bite us.

  22. Right off, I would suggest searching for "long" as
  23. a type and determining whether there is any reason
  24. to want a 64-bit value. My guess is that all
  25. long types in the present generation of the
  26. software ought to be changed to int.  When
  27. we really need long, we can then use it with some
  28. discrimination.
